E.ON and the energy trilemma.
With around EUR87 billion in sales and over 93,500 employees, E.ON is one of the world's largest investor-owned power and gas companies. The company is active across the entire value chain, engaging in generating, trading, distributing and supplying power and gas to millions of customers worldwide. On the basis of recent performance, E.ON appears to be well on the way to achieving its company vision: becoming the world’s leading power and gas company and delivering sustainable success.
Challenge
Energy is an indispensable part of all our daily lives. Many will agree that it forms a fundamental basis for the prosperity of society as a whole - and access to energy is an essential requirement for growth and development around the world. However, extracting, distributing and supplying power and gas brings great challenges and as a leading provider, E.ON has to address a fundamental trillema. The company has a special responsibility to ensure security of energy supply, delivery of energy at an affordable price, as well as ensuring that energy is generated and supplied with minimum environmental impact – particularly against the background of damaging climate change. Blending sustainable financial, social and environmental value is therefore a particularly serious challenge for E.ON.
Our role
C&E plays an advisory role to E.ON, challenging and supporting the global Corporate Responsibility leadership team and working with them as they seek to embed societal consideration at the heart of decision making within the company. In bringing external perspective to the ‘E.ON and society’ agenda, we have advised and supported on CR strategy, as well as on stakeholder engagement strategy and processes. We have also inspired and are facilitating E.ON’s dialogue with some key stakeholder groups on some of the most challenging issues facing the company.
